Bruce Martens,
Registered Physiotherapist,
B.Sc. (Physiotherapy), B.Sc. Honours (Kin)

Bruce has been working at PTI since 2009 after having worked 5 years in a sports medicine clinic in Edmonton.  During this time, Bruce has developed an active, exercise-based approach to treating to treating all types of injuries in both competitive and recreational athletes, as well as those with general orthopaedic conditions.

Bruce graduated with great distinction from the University of Saskatchewan in 2004 with degrees in both Kinesiology and Physiotherapy.   Prior to graduating, Bruce worked as a personal trainer and fitness consultant.  He has taken advanced courses in treating muscle imbalances and postural problems, treating and preventing running injuries, and manual therapy.  He has a special interest in preventing and treating knee injuries, after having two ACL surgeries while in university.

He strongly believes that most chronic musculoskeletal pain is a result of faulty movement patterns and compensations.  These compensations can often be corrected with focused exercise, improved body awareness, and hands on therapy.    To achieve complete rehabilitation, the body must be strengthened to a level higher than it was before the injury.

Bruce has been active in a variety of sports including hockey, volleyball, basketball, and golf.    Currently, he is an avid tennis player, and has been enjoying exploring the running and biking trails around Ottawa.
